Makeup – The secret to the perfect Brown Smokey Eye day-to-night

Artist, Lifestyle

Getting your makeup done professionally is a wonderful treat 💄❤️

I recently had Annies_Makeup give me a makeover and I loved Annie’s work so much that right after the shoot I got a makeup lesson scheduled with her.

I work in the media industry and mainly use Instagram to promote my work and others’ too, so I know it is important to credit the artist. For a working professional, someone who makes their living and pays their bills by freelancing, it’s not JUST a photo. It’s hours of hard physical and intellectual work. It’s crucial to credit the artists: explaining why it’s so important to give credit when posting their work.

So I had this wonderful session with a very young, talented & most affordable makeup artist in the island. She has a wonderful eye for color, respectfully listens to your requests, and moves throughout the getting-ready period with a calm, collected stress-free attitude.

Annie was absolutely brilliant and so lovely with myself and my family. She immediately put me at ease and listened to what I wanted in my makeup application. I trusted her immediately and was not disappointed. I never felt rushed and she took a great deal of care with my application. I felt pampered and enjoyed her company; we had some good laughs. My makeup was perfect! She gave me a brown smokey eye day-to-night look.

Here’s the final look and the step-by-step breakdown:

The 13 Products that was used to Achieve the Brown Smokey Eye Day-to-Night Makeup Look:

Step One: essence makeup primer spray.
Step Two: Maybelline Fit me foundation 220.
Step Three: Kryolan concealer wheel.
Step Four: Becca blush and highlighter.
Step Five: Kat Von D Metal crush highlighter.
Step Six: Anastasia Beverly Hills brow gel.
Step Seven: Revolution shadow palette.
Step Eight: Huda Beauty shadow palette.
Step Nine: Eyelashes @Bahrain Lashes
Step Ten: Gosh Arabia loose powder.
Step Eleven: Lipstick Nyx exotic peach no12

Step Twelve: Eyeliner Inglot gel black liner
Step Thirteen: Mac Cosmetics fixing spray.

I can’t wait to see Annie again for my next event and will recommend her whenever I can. For bookings, inquiries & tutorials, go follow her Instagram account Annies_Makeup

Fond of Fondant

Artist, Events & Experiences

“Cakes are special. Every birthday, every celebration ends with something sweet, a cake, and people remember. It’s all about the memories.” – Buddy Valastro

Last week I went to a wonderful cake decorating workshop at Cakes and Bakes. I was invited to join my super talented baker friend Lamia. This workshop was created specially to teach the students how to decorate their own cake using fondant, icing, piping techniques in simple easy step by step methods.

The workshop was held at her studio in 5th Avenue (Busaiteen Road), where they pour their hearts into every cake they bake. From the design concept to the very last decoration, every detail is handled with love.

The very talented Lamia

The studio has a very positive vibe, it’s peaceful, cozzy & bright and a true reflection of Lamia’s passion and artistry.

The glass shelves of the shop are filled with finished cakes ready to be picked up. For the visitor looking for a quick snack, pastry carts are always filled with sweet delights.

Croquembouche

The very cheerful staff, Jenny. She was so happy to take some of my pictures

Most of the participating students at the workshop were first-timers except for a couple of them. I was a first-timer myself, as I was covering a cake making event for the first time.

The instructors for the workshop were Lamia herself and Chef Prasad (who by the way makes all my cakes). They are magnificent cake decorators, they can cover a cake in five minutes flat with no rips, no flaws and no swear words. I have no idea whether they are magicians, ninjas, or just purely brilliant decorators, but all I know is that I’m not one of them 😀

The workshop started with an introduction session where the lovely participants introduced themselves. It was such an interesting set of people- we had school-going students, a couple of food professionals, college students, some home-bakers, bloggers, and also someone who was there to make a cake for her brother’s birthday.

The instructors Chef Prasad and Lamia with the participants

The first step demonstrated was making of homemade fondant from scratch. Buying fondant can be expensive and sometimes you never get enough to cover your cake.

Students were given access to the kitchen of the studio where the instructors taught them to make the perfect fondant for their respective cakes.

The Kitchen

INGREDIENTS used to make the fondant:

Gelatin
Water
Glucose
Glycerine
Shortening
Powdered Sugar

Covering a cake in fondant can be a bit tricky if one is new to this.  The students followed the tips very well, it took a little trial and error, but eventually we achieved the look we wanted!

After covering the cake in fondant, the next step demonstrated was making of fondant ribbons and fondant  flowers.

Adding the coloring

Using a rolling pin to roll out fondant ribbon

Rolling out and cutting fondant with mini fondant cutter

Creating fun design and patterns on the ribbon

Gluing the fondant ribbon

A fun way to add pizzazz to your cake is by adding a fondant ribbon or a fondant bow. A ribbon adds a touch of cuteness and is actually quite versatile to use. The participants were instructed to colour the paste to the shade that they wanted. They were also given the alternative to play around and create fun design and patterns on the ribbon.

Once the ribbon was done, it was time to try our hands on some flower stunts. These fondant flowers are whimsical, modern and fun — in addition to being fast and easy to create! They’ll wow your friends, family and clients.

MATERIALS used to make the fondant flower:

  • Fondant color
  • Ball tool
  • Fondant roller
  • Foam board
  • Circle cutters in various sizes
  • Rose flower cutters in various sizes
  • Luster dust
  • Paint pallet
  • Plastic Gloves

Using fondant decorating modelling tool to shape fondant flower

Fondant flowers bring a fresh and beautiful feel to cakes for any occasion, from a birthday bash to a wedding. Not just that, they also add a sudden elegance to your cake.

Fondant cut outs

Using fondant flower cutters

Here the participants made sure they know which cutters they plan to use. For the flowers, they were instructed on making three petals.

When all of the petals were finished, they were left to dry for just a few minutes. They are easier to work with if you wait a few minutes. Once they had dried slightly, they were stacked from largest to smallest using a small drop of water.

Piping Techniques

After the flowers were done, Chef Prasad took over and demonstrated Piping Techniques to the students and how to pipe dots and beads using royal icing.

Royal Icing for Piping

Make a piping cone out of Parchment Paper

Once again students were were given the way out to pipe in their choice of colour.

Printable Practice Sheet

Each participant was given a printable practice sheet to practice the piping pattern of their choice that would go on their respective cakes.

The practice went on for some other minutes and then the most dreaded moment came. As most of them were piping for the first time, piping on the real cake was the real deal. They were hesitant to perform any tests on the cake. For those who were more hesitant, to ease the situation, Lamia had to step forward. With her humor and a little bit of guidance, she was able to help them break free from hesitation, fear, and self-doubt.

We could finally see some designs on the surface of the cakes 🙂

The workshop started at 9.00 and finished spot on 13.00hrs. At the end of the workshop all participants were awarded with Certificates of Attendance and they also got to take home the cakes they made at the workshop.

The Workshop ended with light refreshments

Splash into an Artists’ World….

Artist

“Art is the response of man’s creative soul to the call of the real.” – Rabindranath Tagore

Art is as old as civilization. But it is this century which ends in a day which has given a distinct character to the Indian brush. It is the modern artist who comes center stage with a vision born of the encounter of the world of constant awareness and one such artist who made a remarkable impact on divine dimensions of modern art is Divyam Kaushik.

11148720_10153078611812631_8070679353940695545_nPainter-poet Divyam arrived on the Indian art scene in the early 2014 with a unique vision which marks for the painter-poet a special place in art. Born of Brahman parentage, Noida based Divyam has indeed, effected a fusion of east and west to evolve a new style of painting.

In a one year creative span, he painted the visions and ideas that come to his mind and ensured for himself a place for all times with one room at his Residence in Noida specially reserved for his paintings, music and lights.  There is an aura of calmness in his pieces that he feels there where he lives. What makes Divyam’s artwork more interactive is his therapeutic approach, a number of his works in painting, sketch, mural etc. explores the contributions of self-psychology to the conceptualization of art and healing on an individual and cultural level. According to Divyam, art helps him deal with matters that have affected him directly or indirectly and this helps him to move on.

10171280_10153256060522631_3190709016642234738_n

On a larger scale, Divyam’s typical day would be an eight hours of full-time (manic) work and four hours of painting every night. He has been moving to different places all his life. For some time he has been trying to strengthen the feeling of immersion- what he has felt and learnt from staying in one place or moving to another and his past relationships. He has implemented it by creating large pieces and making the picture from first person point of view. This helps the audience to think of themselves in the action of the painting.

10987677_10152952615587631_3432488712232056617_n

His flamboyance, individuality and freedom went into making Divyam a genius in his way and that is what makes him an artist to watch out for in the upcoming years.

“Don’t be so hard on yourself. Be free, make mistakes, live without boundaries; get hurt because in the end life is nothing but a collection of coincidences’’ –Divyam

You can follow Divyam’s awesome artwork & connect with him on-                     Instagram:   https://instagram.com/artshaart/                                                        Facebook:     https://web.facebook.com/ARTILICIOUS1?fref=ts

Here’s a very brief tour of Divyam’s world 🙂

Change is Around the Corner

Artist, Décor, Lifestyle

Here’s what the bible says,” Call those things that are not as if they are and they shall be.”

Good Happy Wednesday Evening! I just find myself always drawn to colors, and when I see a bit of turquoise in there as well, my heart always skips a beat. I get this feeling that a change is just around the corner, all I have to do is turn it!gyI’m sharing a little something that was in my heart this morning, if it’s for you great if not, pass it on maybe we’ll help someone together today! 🙂  I know there’s a lot of people out there looking for change. If you need to make a change, make it, if you are thinking about making a change, solidify that decision. The worst decision you can ever make is indecision. Make a point this week to really make an effort to must figure it out.

I am planning on adding a little turquoise to my life!  ❤

Celebrating the Beauty of Art – and the Nature in it

Artist

Landscape painting is traditionally at the top of the hierarchy of Chinese painting styles. It is very popular and is associated with refined scholarly taste. Landscape painting had evolved into an independent genre that embodied the universal longing of cultivated men to escape their quotidian world to commune with nature. As a nature lover I am attracted to atmospheric effects such as brilliant light, strong shadows, rain, mist – hence my love for Landscape painting. You can now choose and order your favourite watercolor landscape paintings from thousands of available designs.

Prolong The Life

Artist

Friends, this post is about sharing my experience as an Art Collector and how to preserve these fine artworks to make them long-lasting and durable. The Paintings you see here are by Dhananjay Mukherjee, a contemporary artist from India. He participated in more than 110 Group shows and 24 solo shows in India & Abroad. His paintings are basically a judicious mix of the abstract and realistic forms. His thoughts stem from unique imagination, which combines the real natural world with the artistic & creative world.

As mentioned earlier, I am going to share a few maintenance tips which will help you keep your artwork alive for a longer period of time. Owning an expensive painting for your home or office is a matter of pride. But to make this long-lasting and durable art a part of the family for generations it needs proper care and handling. And preserving an artwork is not at all a difficult task provided you follow all the guidelines.

Art always represents something unique and beautiful deserving of special care. Artworks may be masterpieces or done by upcoming artists, the support used may be paper, canvas or cloth, whatever the medium involved all artworks need to be cared for in a special manner. Paintings require and demand care if one wants them to keep giving the viewing pleasure for many years to come.

Like the setting for a diamond, the frame around a work of art is the finishing touch, the element that completes and elevates a painting, presenting it to the viewer in its best possible light. Framing, however, is an art in and of itself, and just as a good frame choice can greatly enhance the appearance of a work, a poor frame choice can drastically diminish a work.

Key Facts to preserve artworks:

-Avoid direct light, frame artworks using a UV-coated or no-reflecting glass.
-Do not place paintings near a heat source or air-conditioning vent.
-Mitigate the effects of pollution by framing all works using acid free mounts and boards.
-Never spray insecticides near or on stored artworks.
-Regularly inspect and clean stored artworks.
-Place paintings flat in a crate while storing.
-Never spray cleaning agents directly on a painting or frame.
-Remove mold using a soft brush and low suction vacuum cleaner.
-Be very careful while moving artworks.

Potential threats to artworks:

-Light: When placing lights make sure that it does not reflect on the artwork, this is the ideal distance to be maintained. Also avoid direct sunlight by not placing the works opposite windows which not only could fade the paint but also discolor the paper.
-Humidity: It is always best to avoid hanging framed pictures in humid conditions. Fluctuations and extremes in temperature and humidity levels can have a detrimental effect upon the preservation of archival materials.
-Pests: Regular inspections of stored collections provide the cheapest and safest method of safeguarding against infestation. Screening on windows and doors will aid in keeping out larger pests. In addition, fresh flowers and plants should be inspected before being placed in the vicinity of your artworks.
-Mold: Areas of high humidity and damp are highly susceptible to damage by mold growth. Any appearance of mold must be immediately removed; the best way is to use a soft brush and low suction vacuum cleaner.
