Durga Puja – Rio Carnival of the East

Events & Experiences

“She can move darkness”

Most important part of the year for a Bengali has arrived. Oh great Mother, we welcome you on this earth whole heartedly. May your arrival destroy all the negativity around us.

📸 – Shekhar Jajodia

For me, the feeling of Durga Puja is incomparable to any other time of the year. It’s a 10 day long celebration filled with delicious food, new clothes (hello, new saris!), aartis and pujas, and being surrounded by your family and friends. Can’t wait to immerse myself into the Godly embrace 🙏🏻 (Excitement creeping in ❤️😁)

Let’s proceed with the assumption that you know what Durga Puja is about. For those who have no clue, it’s the worship of the Hindu Goddess Durga and her children, whose idols are hosted in the makeshift Pandals for around five days. Let’s proceed..

Article Courtesy: Timesofindia Indiatimes Blogs

It won’t be entirely an exaggeration to say that Bengalis world over spend a significant amount of their time planning and deciding what to do during the Durga Pujas. Most of them wear multiple sets of clothes – mind you, there’s a morning outfit and an evening outfit, plus emergency backup outfits. And of course, there are important decisions to make – like what to eat on which day. From the warm khichudi, papad bhaja as bhog in pandals to the street stalls set up to serve delectable dishes like egg rolls, kobiraji and mughlai parota, you are game to feast on anything and everything.

So prior to the pujas, the air is absolutely thick with a feeling one gets just before the starting, the unravelling of something extremely huge — the feeling you get just before reaching the peak of a much awaited climax.

You will get to see sweaty Bongs, who under the twelve o’clock sun, sits in an auto patiently stuck in a huge traffic jam in the heart of a buzz-filled street, clutching onto innumerable bulging shopping bags of different shapes and sizes. This is called Puja shopping.

It is a reverberating rhythm which amplifies and resounds in the sounds of the dhak. It’s a feeling. You can not only hear it, but feel it — you get goose bumps when the dhakis first begin to play their beat. The city reverberates with the echo of conch shells, which is no less than a divine feeling.

Durga Puja is actually, the celebration of ‘life’ and the joy of ‘living’ more than anything else. Durga Puja becomes an expression of the city itself. It is almost that the city bursts into laughter during these few days.

Sharing with you guys my experience at The Orangery Tea Room & Patisserie.
Prettiest food place I’ve seen in a while with superb tasting food to match.
Management team and staff were very helpful and attentive both before and throughout the visit.

Enjoyed working with @thesilent_traveller1. I’m completely new to social video formats or haven’t had much practice with it, he suggested we keep it casual and I’m kinda happy with the result.

Tiers of Joy at The Orangery.

The Orangery focuses on the traditional English tea room era, offering an a la carte menu with an influence of the Middle East. A wonderful café/patisserie where the quality matches top hotels. Their team of chefs have spent a great deal of time developing a menu that is the perfect balance between classic English concept and location in the Middle East. Their artisan breads, delicious cakes, tarts, viennoiserie, and macaroons represent the best of classic Europe; while their savoury team brings Middle Eastern flavor to their breakfast, lunch and dinner menu, with delectable Lebanese and Syrian dishes.

If you are in Bahrain and you’ve been missing really good tea, you don’t have to go far. In the glorious Victorian restaurant, request a table for a luxurious country house atmosphere in the heart of the city, Adliya. With its stylish Art Deco design, this is a great place to unwind on weekends as well as weekdays.

Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa – The Perfect Beach Picnic

Events & Experiences, Hotel, Travel and Food

Took advantage of the warm and sunny weather this weekend, and opted for a picturesque and secluded picnic at Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa sea & spa. Here’s the details as promised, everything you need to know about our delightfully simple, pre-arranged picnic.

Amazed at the beauty of this place

You can enjoy a grand ‪Saturday lunch‬ outing between 12:30-4 PM on the lush lawns with your loved ones until Ramadan.

The Location

The hotel is far from the main city but it is all worth it! Located on the immaculate beaches of Zallaq overlooking the Arabian Gulf on the west coast of Bahrain, this 5-star luxury hotel in Bahrain boasts the only Thalassa Sea and Spa in the GCC countries.

After getting recommended by a friend about the Pique-nique, I decided to celebrate my husband’s birthday under the blue skies of Sofitel Bahrain. As Ramadan was starting soon, I was waitlisted at first, but someone canceled on at the last minute and I got lucky.

This is my happy place. The most beautiful picnic spot

The Set Up

Opt for a patch of lush green grass next to the pool area, or on the sandy shores of the private beach. The choice is yours!

After selecting the ideal spot, all that’s left for you to do is slowly make your way to the picnic site of your choice, admiring the tranquil beauty of the estate on your way. The staff at Saraya Restaurant in Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa sea & spa will pre-pack your picnic basket, set up your blanket and lay everything out in anticipation of your arrival.

 The Basket

The picnic basket arranged by Saraya Restaurant features a variety of mouth-watering delicacies. Our basket included regular favourites – sandwiches, starters, fresh fruits, water, dessert, sweets, and much more. We carried a bottle of wine for the celebration. I also got a double chocolate cake from Macaron Pastries, located on the lobby level of the hotel.

Price of Picnic for 2: BD20

Cost for picnic hamper is 10BD per head with children 6-12 half price , and below 6 free (INCLUDING) beach access!

To find out more about Pique-nique at Sofitel Bahrain, or to begin the process of arranging your very own outdoor dining experience with them, email at h6722@sofitel.com, call (+973)17636363, direct message on Instagram @sofitelbahrain or simply visit Reception to speak to a friendly member of staff.

Pretty details that will set the right mood and enhance your stay

About the Hotel

At Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa, Arabian interior design and a luxurious color palette combine with elegant dark hardwoods, creating an inviting contemporary oasis.

The hotel is reminiscent of a precious shell beside the cerulean ocean, curving gently around the white sand bay. You can trace the footsteps of renowned French jeweller Jacques Cartier, who came to this enchanting island in search of the finest pearls.

Glide across the polished marble floors of the lobby and feel your eyes being drawn to the alluring potted palms and exquisite Dilmun artworks. Enjoy a taste of their dual heritage with a complimentary Arabic coffee or a French macaron from our patisserie.

Award-winning La Mer presents exceptional seafood in a sumptuous French style. Choose from the day’s catch and watch the talented chefs meticulously prepare your meal, before you step onto the jetty to dine amidst breathtaking views of the Arabian Gulf.

Special shout-out to @anismouldi, Anais and Mohamed, the extra effort you put in was really appreciated.

Holi in Bahrain – Dipped in hues of Love and Color

Events & Experiences, Lifestyle, Travel and Food

Nobody apprehends the importance of celebrating festivals than the Indians settled abroad away from their country and cultural roots. I had it marked on my calendar since the beginning of February.

Celebrating Holi, (the Hindu festival of mischief, love, affection, and color) was on my list of goals for the blog alongside shifting apartment and raising a 14-month-old. We got to welcome spring (and diversity) with warm-loving arms, during this Holi in Bahrain on March 2nd 2018.

A day full of fun for all, was organised extremely well at Novotel Bahrain Al Dana Resort. Wolfpackeventsbh, IGMH – Indian Gulf Media House, KTK Events, Desi Nights Bahrain and Bollywood Glitz have done an excellent job of organising a wonderful, successful event this season. The vibrant lineup included live dhols to rain dance, best of mind-boggling DJs from all genres, 6 hours of non-stop music, unlimited organic colours, kids play area, live food counter,  and more. Food Attractions included: Indian BBQ, Pani Poori, Shawarma, Momos, Chaat, Cupcakes & many more.

A big crowd of citizens and residents of the Kingdom came together to celebrate one of India’s iconic festivals. Everyone seemed to love the spirit of fun and enjoyment and dived into the barrel of colors to play Holi.

Guests were given organic colored powder to toss around the beach to celebrate the season in style with food, cocktails and beats at this party.

Thank you so much for having us Novotel Bahrain Al Dana ResortWolfpackeventsbhIGMH – Indian Gulf Media House, KTK Events, Desi Nights Bahrain, Bollywood Glitz and for letting us be a part of this celebration of Love. Congratulations, can’t wait to see what next year brings.

Ten Toddler Breakfast Ideas

Travel and Food

Ten Toddler Breakfast Ideas to inspire your busy mornings! Mix and match these kid favorites below with milk for a great start to the day.

As the mother of a toddler and, most recently, a 3-week-old infant, breakfast is without question The Most Important Meal of the Day.

For all of us.

Learn to make ten different breakfasts for toddlers!

Breakfast time is the only time that is certain: I know where we will be and when, and now I know what we will eat. If lunch is sometimes a question mark, if dinner is an unknown, breakfast is my rock.

I cannot predict what my toddler will eat (or not eat) the rest of the day, but I know I can get him to eat a solid breakfast. Mix and match these 10 Toddler Breakfast Ideas to guarantee a nourishing start to your child’s day. And a bit of sanity to yours.

TODDLER MEAL IDEAS

Some foods shown below have to be prepared separately, while others are as simple as peeling and banana and slicing it up. Whenever possible, I have provided links to recipes when items could be homemade (or you may substitute a store-bought version).

While you may not have all of these components on hand at all times, I hope you are able to find some inspiration here to help answer that eternal question: What the heck am I going to feed my toddler today???

TODDLER BREAKFAST IDEA #1: TURKEY SAUSAGE, CLEMENTINE SLICES, TOASTED OAT CEREAL, AND MILK

Turkey sausage is one of the rare poultry options that I like as much as the full-fat version (turkey pepperoni is another favorite). I added clementine slices (or substitute mandarin oranges) for sweetness and some toasted oat cereal. If your child is coordinated enough, pour the milk into the bowl to enjoy the cereal the traditional way! Running behind? Toss the cereal into a bag and take it on the road for a quick snack.

A pink plate with 9 mandarin orange segments, two turkey sausage links, and a small fork and spoon. In a small glass bowl, there is toasted oat cereal, and next to it is a blue plastic cup with milk.

TODDLER BREAKFAST IDEA #2: PANCAKES WITH MAPLE SYRUP, CHOPPED STRAWBERRIES, AND MILK

If you cannot find the energy to mix up a batch of pancakes from scratch in the morning (and if you’re reading this post, you probably have a toddler, and therefore you definitely DON’T have the energy), give yourself a head start with a Healthy Homemade Pancake Mix. Top with butter and pure maple syrup and serve with a side of fresh strawberries and a glass of milk for an easy, toddler-pleasing morning.

In my house, pancakes = fewer tantrums.

A blue plastic plate with two pancakes topped with a pat of butter and maple syrup, 7 quarters of fresh straberries, and it is served with a small yellow polka dot cup of milk. There is a small fork and small knife to the top left of the plate.

TODDLER BREAKFAST IDEA #3: SCRAMBLED EGG WITH CHEESE, GRAPE TOMATO HALVES, ENGLISH MUFFIN WITH JAM, AND MILK

Everything is better with cheese (says the girl from America’s Dairyland) and your toddler thinks so, too. Even a tiny sprinkle of shredded cheese might be all it takes to convince your toddler that eggs are a good idea in the morning (my recipe for Simple Scrambled Eggs is below). As for the grape tomato halves… my toddler loves these. Yours might not. That’s okay. Serve with a small piece of toasted English muffin and strawberry jam and – you guessed it – a glass of milk.

A green plate with six cherry tomato halves, scrambled eggs with melted cheddar cheese, and half of an English muffin with strawberry jam. There is a small fork to the bottom of the plate.

TODDLER BREAKFAST IDEA #4: CRACKERS WITH COTTAGE CHEESE AND A MILK & BERRY SMOOTHIE

This is a favorite snack in my house but it doubles as a quick breakfast idea, too. Blend some 1/2 banana and 4 fresh or frozen strawberries into 6 ounces of milk for a sweet and satisfying toddler-sized smoothie. Then call it dessert!

A yellow plastic plate with a small bowl of cottage cheese served with crackers and a small pink cuot of milk and berry smoothie.

TODDLER BREAKFAST IDEA #5: WHOLE WHEAT TOAST WITH PEANUT BUTTER, BANANA SLICES, AND MILK

Peanut butter toast with bananas on top is an obvious breakfast idea for anyone – except a toddler. The banana slices must be on the side – always on the side! No questions asked! If you start your child off eating wheat toast from the beginning, they won’t even want squishy white bread as they grow up. Hey, it worked for me when my mom did it! Don’t forget the milk to wash down all that peanut butter.

10 Toddler Breakfast Ideas | Culinary Hill

TODDLER BREAKFAST IDEA #6: TURKEY BACON, A MINI PUMPKIN MUFFIN (WITH ADDED CHIA SEEDS), APPLESAUCE, AND MILK

I find that turkey bacon often tastes a look like a ham slice. Which is definitely a good thing! The pumpkin muffins can be made on a weekend for an easy breakfast or snacking idea all week long. I added 1 Tablespoon of chia seeds to my recipe. It doesn’t sound like much, but with chia seeds, a little goes a long way! Applesauce and milk on the side complete this breakfast of champions.

A green plastic plate with four half slices of turkey bacon, a pumpkin muffin and a small fork. There is a small glass bowl with applesauce and a utensil in it, and a small orange plastic cup with milk.

TODDLER BREAKFAST IDEA #7: YOGURT WITH GRANOLA, BLUEBERRIES, AND MILK

This is another “assembly” breakfast idea that requires no actual cooking. Keep the components separate at first in case your toddler doesn’t like everything mixed together (mine doesn’t). Either homemade or store-bought granola works here (although you’ll want to make the granola in advance, not in the morning while you are trying to get out the door to preschool). Substitute your child’s favorite berry of choice if blueberries aren’t preferred, and don’t forget the milk!

A yellow plate with fresh blueberries, a small serving of granola, a small glass bowl of yogurt and a cup of milk. There is a small spoon next to the cup of milk.

TODDLER BREAKFAST IDEA #8: APPLE SLICES WITH ALMOND BUTTER, STRING CHEESE, AND MILK

Possibly the easiest breakfast idea yet, and that’s saying something! (None of these are rocket science). I tend to keep almond butter on hand for those fleeting moments when my husband suddenly goes Paleo.  It’s also the easiest thing ever to make at home if you have a food processor or a good blender. Almond butter is surprisingly delicious when you spread it on apple slices (my toddler prefers a cup for dipping). Wash it down with a glass of milk and add a piece of string cheese on the side. Super simple, and it also makes a great snack idea!

An orange plate with apple slices and a small serving of almond butter, served with string cheese and a cup of milk.

TODDLER BREAKFAST IDEA #9: MINI BAGEL WITH CREAM CHEESE, GRAPES, AND MILK

Obviously regular bagels work just as well here, you may just end up using half a bagel instead of the whole thing. Depending on the size of your toddler’s tummy. Spread the bagel with thick petals of cream cheese and serve with grapes (halved lengthwise if necessary) and a glass of milk on the side.

A blue plastic plate with a mini bagel with cream cheese spread on it, and sixteen small purple grapes, served with a yellow polka dot cup of milk.

TODDLER BREAKFAST IDEA #10: BREAKFAST SANDWICH (CANADIAN BACK AND CHEESE), CANTALOUPE, AND MILK

The breakfast sandwiches can be customized based on what you like (click here for a make-ahead freezer option using deli ham, cheddar cheese, and eggs). My son is a melon fanatic, so cantaloupe (or honey dew, or watermelon) was an obvious pairing for me. A foamy glass of milk on the side completes this fun and nutritious breakfast idea!

A pink plastic plate with Canadian bacon and cheese on an English muffin served with a side of cantalope pieces and a yellow polka dot cup of milk.

As you choose foods for your toddler, for breakfast and the rest of the day, consider involving them in the process so they start to understand how to compose a plate at mealtime.

Café CHANTILLY – the French experience in Bahrain

Décor, Travel and Food

Café CHANTILLY brings a little piece of France in Bahrain with a charming, modern and contemporary space. Located in Sar area in Bahrain, to the west of the capital, Manama, this place makes you feel like you are in an actual cafe in France. The menu is no exception, with dishes and desserts that are so artisanal, they’re almost too pretty to eat.

From the moment you enter Café CHANTILLY, there’s no denying the French touch. The antique French contemporary furniture, plush textures, pieces, creative patterns and glistening lamps and chandeliers are artistic and inviting.

Highlights of my visit to the cafe:

Café CHANTILLY is the kind of place you’ll meet old friends and catch up over an artisanal cup of coffee. Inspiring, calming and beautiful; the space appeals to creative and passionate individuals.

The interiors of Café CHANTILLY are a whimsical curation of contemporary, modern and Provençal pieces. It’s evident Ségolène (Director & Owner, Café CHANTILLY & CHANTILLY Food) has added her personal touch to the more traditional items, reinvented them and given them new purpose. With the music and splashes of color and patterns, the space is full of life and happiness.

A flight of fantasy to Macau

Hotel, Travel and Food

Macanese moments are well presented in these photos. Now, I learned that even if a place is as small as Macau, one should never underestimate the great treasures that can lie within.

“First birthdays are for the parents’ benefit, to celebrate surviving the first year and remember the day you gave birth. Do whatever you fancy. Your baby won’t hold it against you!” It’s an exciting milestone! So we decided to go on a vacation to a nice place with hills, beach and culture on our baby’s first birthday which was on the December, 29th. Anyone else planning the first birthday vacation?

As we were traveling with our baby girl, we preferred to limit our destination choice to within a 6-hour flight; hence we decided on Macau for the Christmas and Birthday celebration. We booked our reservation at Crowne Plaza, Macau for 6 days.

Got into our hotel room

Breakfast next day with Kathleen, Cafe Azure (Crowne Plaza)

Apparently spending 5 nights in Hong Kong and 3 in Macau, should be adequately good  to get an OK experience of the place, but we wanted a get-fit, healthy, relaxing and a special birthday vacation. So we decided to visit Hong Kong sometime in the future. I have been traveling the world together with my partner for over seven years now and one of the things we love the most is the freedom that travel and this lifestyle gives us.

The islands of Macau, settled off the coast of Hong Kong in the South China Sea, can only be described as an exception. Here, in the middle of Asia, you can spot yourself walking through an old Portuguese village or standing in the thick of colorful lights of a Vegas-style strip of casinos. It’s a place where a long colonial history has brought cultural influences together from all corners of the globe, resulting in a truly one of a kind destination.

Macau has a little bit of culture for everyone. For historical culture there are amazing churches and museums, and for local culture the beaches, attractions and nightlife are like no other city in the world. From Hong Kong you can reach Macau by jetfoil, which makes the area a popular day-trip destination.

Known for its huge casinos and being the world’s top gambling city, it boasts some of the luxury hotels and is a great destination for Michelin-starred fine dining. We visited The Venetian, Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16, The Parisian, Galaxy Macau, Grand Coloane Resort and Four Seasons.

We visited their restaurants to celebrate our ‘thank goodness we survived the first tricky 365 days’ with cutting a cake or a dessert in plate each day of the trip.

Honestly we  wanted to explore so much more but it is quite challenging when you travel with baby (howbeit we embraced the new fun and craziness of traveling with our bundle of joy, all the gear and baby-lugging was a great vacation exercise).

Christmas Eve Lunch with the gorgeous team (Courtesy) Cafe Azure & Chew Kee Wei

I love learning about (and tasting) all of the amazing foods in the world. Each shoot I experience new things to add to my food memory bank. (Blog Post coming soon)

Important things that you should be informed if you are planning a day trip to Macau from Hong Kong:

Allow 1 hour to get from hotel to ferry+tickets+boarding.

Allow 1 hour to get from HK to Macau.

Allow 30mins to disembark, immigration then taxi.

Similar the other way round…so travelling will cost you 5 hours.

Longer ferry waiting times during weekends and public holidays.

If you leave at 9am, you will reach Macau at 1130. To get back to HK by 6pm, you will have to leave Macau by 430. That gives you 5 hours. I think you should stay for dinner. Try Macanese or Portugese food, or visit the Casinos. Take a later ferry and be back by about 11pm.

P.S. Will update the blog with more photos of the trip and also working on a separate blog about my dining experience at Cafe Azure and about my stay at Crowne Plaza, The Venetian, The Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16, and Grand Coloane Beach Resort.

Till we meet again

xoxo

North East at its finest, Vivanta By Taj – Guwahati

Hotel, Travel and Food

THAT’S A WRAP. Thank you all for your support! I loved this blog. Loved shooting it, loved writing it, loved coordinating, contributing, and loved reading it as it held an emotional aspect – going back to the place you grew up in is a really weird mix of feelings. But truth be told, it was a lot of work, I was on the road a lot, daily keeping up with the motherhood tasks all while trying to post 1 fortnightly article and update the older ones.

On this vacation, I wanted to make the most of my time exploring the luxury destinations and dishes in my city. So, I bring to you my lavish and exclusive experience at the dreamy Vivanta by Taj, Guwahati. Taj group of hotels epitomize royalty, luxury & elegance and Vivanta by Taj, Guwahati offers a unique flavour of hospitality with world-class refinement while remaining deeply rooted in its local heritage.

I visited the hotel on the very busy Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival, I was welcomed with the offering of a Gamusa/Gamosa/Gamocha (a white hand-woven piece of cloth of cotton or silk, with red woven patterns or motifs on two sides and red stripes on the long border) that holds a unique identity of the Assamese Society and the trademark aarti, tikka of a Taj Hotel.

This is an incredible honor and the equivalent to getting a Hermès scarf imo..not a bag though (hint hint to hubby ;))

After the welcome tea and a sumptuous lunch at one of the grand in-house restaurants, SEVEN (an ode to the seven sister states of India, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh) it was time I took a tour of the hotel and its highlights and luxury services. Ms.Indranee, Public Relations Consultant, accompanied me for the blog tour. Her knowledge and passion for the Taj was evident and she answered all of my questions pertaining to the Vivanta by Taj, Guwahati (I ask a lot of questions…as Google can attest).

Menu that shows Northeast India at its artistic best

Highlights of my lunch at SEVEN.

-Salmon khorika with bambooshoot chutney.

-Penne Mandhania Pesto.

-Traditional Assamese Thali.

-Masor Tenga (fish in tomato gravy).

-Amita (Papaya) Khar.

-Black Rice (Manipuri) Kheer.

-Pork leg with bambooshoot and laai xaak.

-Assamese style mutton leg.

-Siddho Chicken.

-Rich pastry dessert from France called “Opera” (Butter cream
Almond sponge based on almond powder, egg white, flour ,vanilla essence, icing sugar, Coffee liquor, Black rice pudding, Ginger Belgium Chocolate Veloute)

(Special thanks to the kitchen and catering team Chef Biswarup, Pastry Chef Toufique and Debraj for all of their efforts in creating a truly special traditional full course meal with authentic dishes from Northeast India).

The other in-house restaurant UMAMI (do you guys know what that means? I didn’t….it’s the savory taste on our taste buds. One of the five basic tastes) serves a wide range of international cuisines including contemporary Chinese and Japanese.

Along with SEVEN and UMAMI, the property also has a lounge bar, OCTAVE. This place is well known for its friendly and relaxed atmosphere as well as a convenient meeting spot for friends, families and work colleagues. All the restaurants can all be accessed from the Hotel’s lobby.

Akash and his team at Octave are awesome party starters. You will get a fantastic show combined with high quality cocktails/mocktails

Stunning range of Decanterlights at Octave

Photo Gallery

The architecture and experiences at Vivanta by Taj, Guwahati pay homage to the local culture. The entire experience revolves around the landscape, the local knowledge and folklore. The hotel weaves those characteristics to make our stay unique and fosters a sense of belonging immediately.

My tour included of one of the Deluxe Delight Rooms on the 6th floor. It had all standard amenities that you expect of a luxury hotel. The rooms boast of traditional carved wooden and bamboo furniture, royal interiors, abundantly stocked mini-bar, sleek workspace and picturesque hill and pool views. Can anything get better than this? (yes a week long stay!….on my wish list) I loved everything from the textured walls, to the elegant bed linens, everything was masterfully styled with motifs that symbolise the Ahom dynasty and is a beautiful amalgamation/confluence of all Northeastern tribes and generations. The perfect blend of modern with traditional roots.

Some More Highlights of my Room Tour

I have a great admiration for those hotels that provide Forest Essentials Bath & Body products so if the Taj group could get any higher in my opinion, they just did.

Apart from the easy accessibility and brilliant interiors, another major selling point of the hotel is the tranquil Jiva Spa (Taj’s award winning Indian and all-natural Spas) that offers soul stirring Ayurveda and Spa treatments. For an ultimate rejuvenating experience, treat your love and yourself with a “Sangam” (couple) Jiva Spa experience.

Look at these positive notes instead of looking on the floor during your spa treatments. How exotic!

If you are at the Jiva Spa, ask Esther for a detoxifying Vishuddhi chai (a lipsmacking yet calming concoction of lemon juice, jaggary and holy basil) before and after your massage.

Jiva treatments and therapies are inspired by the very meaning of the word Jiva (‘inner force’) which, for centuries, has been deeply rooted in India’s rich heritage of wellness.

This culturally rich hotel is a wonderful venue for artists and art lovers. Hastakshar’ artwork collections (a unique art gallery initiative by ‘First Hand Foundation’) are displayed around the hotel premises on the first floor next to Jiva Spa.

The works of these artists reflect the region’s diversity and its rich cultural, spiritual and natural heritage.

The Fitness Centre at Vivanta by Taj, Guwahati has everything you need to meet your health and fitness requirements on the go. The in-house gym has a trainer and a yoga instructor.

The gym setting is spacious, clean and provides a friendly atmosphere catering for all levels. Including the child in me ….who wanted to bounce on the exercise balls…what? It’s a valid form of exercise!

The spacious lawns, gardens and pool area on the hotel grounds offer a good walking opportunity. The hotel is tucked in vegetation and its gorgeous gardens greatly enhance the look of the place, especially the Halicornias, (also popularly known as yellow orchids, lobster-claw, wild plantain or false bird-of-paradise) the colors of which are an important source of attraction and are used for interior arrangement in the hotel.

This hotel has already become a landmark in Guwahati city. It is located in Khanapara and very close to the Secretariat in Dispur, the Capital of Assam and is conveniently situated near Guwahati-Shillong highway. The distance from the Airport is covered within an hour through the expressway, after taking a right turn from Jhalukbari crossing. The hotel is hospitable for both business and leisure travelers. It is a proven international business and conferencing destination as well as a great place to stop by –enroute to discovering the Northeast India.

I left the hotel with a sense of pride at my heritage and deep appreciation for a chain that is providing International modern standards of service but has not forgotten Indian standards of hospitality and roots. Oh I also left stuffed! The food was amazing!
