Oasis of tranquility in busy Hamburg – Planten un Blomen

Travel and Food

There is such power in nature. It’s always in motion, isn’t it? This summer, I am going to reconnect with nature by taking my daughter on nature walks. Hamburg is a beautiful, clean city, and Planten un Blomen is an even more beautiful spot right in the middle! We visited the botanical garden in April this year when the Cherry blossoms were out and were so impressed that we wanted to take our daughter again and again.

The botanic garden Park Planten un Blomen (Plants and Flowers in English) has fountains, a playground, and a rink for ice skating. The park is famous for its water-light concerts, public theater and music performances. In addition to the gardens, there is a large playground in the southern area of the park.

Absolutely recommend for people who are looking for a quiet escape right inside the city! You can relax on the many chairs or on the grass admiring the city view from the lovely park with lots of flowers, trees and plenty of water. Ideal for families with young children to enjoy fun in the water and on the playground. It’s rather big so bring plenty of time. On a sunny day, you can spend many hours here (Suggested duration: More than 3 hours).

Just a short stroll from the city Planten un Blomen is the place to relax under Mediterranean fig trees or at the Japanese teahouse. The park offers manicured flower beds, herb gardens, and vast lawns. Idyllic ponds, as well as themed gardens, are a popular time-out spot for business people and university students alike. And with access to central Hamburg, the park is never far away. 🌳🍀🚶🏻‍♀️

Enjoy crossing the water using the stepping stones with the ducks and turtles swimming through.

A must do to in Hamburg in order to feel the city and its spirit. Soak up the sun, have a picnic or rollerskate, relax on the chairs by the koi ponds, watch your children play, or engage in water sports with your family or enjoy ice cream or drinks in one of several spots throughout the park, or simply walk and admire. You never run out of options in the 47 hectares (116.1 acres) urban

Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa – The Perfect Beach Picnic

Events & Experiences, Hotel, Travel and Food

Took advantage of the warm and sunny weather this weekend, and opted for a picturesque and secluded picnic at Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa sea & spa. Here’s the details as promised, everything you need to know about our delightfully simple, pre-arranged picnic.

Amazed at the beauty of this place

You can enjoy a grand ‪Saturday lunch‬ outing between 12:30-4 PM on the lush lawns with your loved ones until Ramadan.

The Location

The hotel is far from the main city but it is all worth it! Located on the immaculate beaches of Zallaq overlooking the Arabian Gulf on the west coast of Bahrain, this 5-star luxury hotel in Bahrain boasts the only Thalassa Sea and Spa in the GCC countries.

After getting recommended by a friend about the Pique-nique, I decided to celebrate my husband’s birthday under the blue skies of Sofitel Bahrain. As Ramadan was starting soon, I was waitlisted at first, but someone canceled on at the last minute and I got lucky.

This is my happy place. The most beautiful picnic spot

The Set Up

Opt for a patch of lush green grass next to the pool area, or on the sandy shores of the private beach. The choice is yours!

After selecting the ideal spot, all that’s left for you to do is slowly make your way to the picnic site of your choice, admiring the tranquil beauty of the estate on your way. The staff at Saraya Restaurant in Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa sea & spa will pre-pack your picnic basket, set up your blanket and lay everything out in anticipation of your arrival.

 The Basket

The picnic basket arranged by Saraya Restaurant features a variety of mouth-watering delicacies. Our basket included regular favourites – sandwiches, starters, fresh fruits, water, dessert, sweets, and much more. We carried a bottle of wine for the celebration. I also got a double chocolate cake from Macaron Pastries, located on the lobby level of the hotel.

Price of Picnic for 2: BD20

Cost for picnic hamper is 10BD per head with children 6-12 half price , and below 6 free (INCLUDING) beach access!

To find out more about Pique-nique at Sofitel Bahrain, or to begin the process of arranging your very own outdoor dining experience with them, email at h6722@sofitel.com, call (+973)17636363, direct message on Instagram @sofitelbahrain or simply visit Reception to speak to a friendly member of staff.

Pretty details that will set the right mood and enhance your stay

About the Hotel

At Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa, Arabian interior design and a luxurious color palette combine with elegant dark hardwoods, creating an inviting contemporary oasis.

The hotel is reminiscent of a precious shell beside the cerulean ocean, curving gently around the white sand bay. You can trace the footsteps of renowned French jeweller Jacques Cartier, who came to this enchanting island in search of the finest pearls.

Glide across the polished marble floors of the lobby and feel your eyes being drawn to the alluring potted palms and exquisite Dilmun artworks. Enjoy a taste of their dual heritage with a complimentary Arabic coffee or a French macaron from our patisserie.

Award-winning La Mer presents exceptional seafood in a sumptuous French style. Choose from the day’s catch and watch the talented chefs meticulously prepare your meal, before you step onto the jetty to dine amidst breathtaking views of the Arabian Gulf.

Special shout-out to @anismouldi, Anais and Mohamed, the extra effort you put in was really appreciated.

Saint Patrick’s Day – BSPCA Annual Dog Walk

Events & Experiences

Saint Patrick’s Day just got a whole lot better with some wonderful people and super cute pooches.

Be a best friend. Volunteer.
Every year millions of homeless dogs await their fate behind the chain-link walls of a shelter. Shelter dogs wait days, weeks, or even years for a home…and every day they wait for a walk.
Animal shelters are everywhere in every size, kill versus no-kill, privately owned or government run, and the differences go on and on. No two animal shelters are alike, but there is one thing that remains the same. Animal shelters are a second chance for our homeless pets.
Visit your local animal shelter to learn about volunteer opportunities.

It’s impossible to pick favorites when it comes to dogs. When it comes to sheer adorableness; however, these pooches might just rise above the rest.. BSPCA thanks for letting me be a part of this. Loved capturing the day.

Lots of love xxxxx

Café Amsterdam – Enjoying the Summer Sunshine in Bahrain

Décor, Events & Experiences, Travel and Food

Located in Adliya alongside its sister restaurant La Vinoteca Barcelona, Café Amsterdam is based in a cozy and cute Dutch canal-style building reminiscent of the back streets of Amsterdam. The european architecture shouldn’t mislead you, this restaurant is located in the bohemian neighborhood in Manama, Bahrain.

In the heart of Bahrain’s fine dining neighbourhood, Café Amsterdam’s menu is built on modern European and New American cuisine. The menu includes innovative gastronomic creations, decadent desserts and original beverages. The award-winning Café Amsterdam offers a dining and nightlife experience under one roof with a sleek, state-of-the-art lounge, a bright and spacious glass conservatory and a lovely garden for al fresco dining.

Begin the day with breakfast in the light filled conservatory, lunch in the lofty dining room, after work in the snug and dinner on the expansive balcony overlooking the garden. Plus, catch all your favorite games in the sleek sports lounge!

I had my 9th brunch at Café Amsterdam, whose kitchen is now purring along at a consistently high standard. Stand-out dishes at this outing were dazzling Barley Salad, Risotto al Pesto with cream pesto sauce, parmesan cheese and charcoal grilled chicken and their Passionfruit Cheesecake. A technically demanding (for heat in the summer) pineapple, coconut cream and kiwi mocktail ”Prince of the Middle East” was superb.

Buzzing at nighttime with regular live music events in their garden area, this is the perfect venue to enjoy a fantastic atmosphere and unwind with friends. So whenever you feel a craving for a true Dutch experience, you know your place in Bahrain.

Wanderlusting: contemporary restaurant design, so bright & pretty

With its wooden panelling and beautiful orange bricks, this interior gives a very welcoming image of the place.

Full of modern elegance, Café Amsterdam’s design and decor is a tasteful combination of cozy-chic art-deco reminiscent of the late 1920s period.

Checking the chicken for my risotto. This was my first attempt with charcoal. The flavor was exactly what I had imagined: smoky

It was another hugely successful day with brilliant, tasty & professional looking food. When there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.

First smile to first friend

Events & Experiences

First smile to first friend: Imitating facial expressions is just one of the ways babies learn how to get along with others. And what a gift it is!!

Social skills are hugely important in family life. Babies & toddlers learn about relationships through all their senses: they notice the way you look into their eyes; see expressions on your face, hear you cooing, singing, talking & reading. And just as milk nourishes their bodies, social interactions help feed children’s emotional & intellectual growth!

☀☀ During summers, pool parties are the only best way to beat the heat whilst party hard!

As summer season has hit most of the countries, you would be flooded with pool party invitations. Pool parties have always tempted and mesmerised party animals! It is fun and relaxing to hang out with friends inside the pool with a bottle of beer. However, pool water has chlorine that can damage your skin and hair. So, before heading for a water based party, you need to take some preventive measures to look perfect for the party. Party freaks need to know some smart tips to maintain themselves while partying like a rockstar!

Wax ——- Before hitting any pool party, you must wax your body so that the exposed skin doesn’t look ugly!

Sunscreen ——- If you have a pool party in the daytime, the scorching rays of the sun can tan you and make you look dull and dark. So do not forget to apply a sunscreen before going to the party. No matter what skin tone you have, always apply sunscreen and apply it often. Sunscreen is your most valuable investment and you can’t go wrong with multiple applications throughout the day. The sunscreen application is easier than ever when you use the spray sunscreen. And for those of you who want to tan, it is a total myth that you can’t tan while wearing sunscreen. You will not only tan through sunscreen, but you will keep your skin healthy! (Priorities, people!)

Know how to swim ——- Better yet, know how to dive! This will come in handy when the rude kids dare you to jump off a high dive.

No hairstyle ——- If you try some tricky hairstyle for the pool party, all the hard effort will go in vain once you jump into the pool. So, do not bother about your hairstyle.

Clean nails ——- This is one of the most important tips to remember before going to a pool party. Cut your nails to avoid hurting yourself, look clean and also maintain hygiene.

Sunglasses ——- Grab a sexy pair of sunglasses and you can enjoy the party to the fullest. Use plastic ‘glasses’ for drinks as broken glass is not what you want to have to deal with. You really should make sure your sunglasses protect your eyes from both UVA and UVB rays. The UVA rays penetrate deep into your skin, hitting the dermis, while UVB rays usually burn the first layer of skin. By any means, your eyes also fall victim to the sun’s strong rays and deserve the same kind of protection that your skin does.

Extra clothes/swimsuits ——- Before jumping into the pool, you need to keep a stock of fresh clothes. You cannot roam all around or return in wet clothes. So, carry extra clothes with you. You really don’t want to forget this! Be sure you take along an easy change of clothes, and a swimsuit cover up, so you can be comfortable before, during and after the pool day.

Slippers over heels ——- At pool parties, wear something that makes you feel comfortable. Wear slippers as they are waterproof and won’t even damage easily.

Wear a swimsuit you are comfortable with ——- There are tons of styles out there. The most practical of them all is probably a sweet heart neckline or straight neckline tankini swimsuit. A tankini is like a bikini except it has a full tank style top instead of a undergarment style top. Wear your swimsuit to the party, underneath your clothes or cover up.

Pack a tote with essentials ——- Carry along with you a strong roomy tote bag containing some stuff. Here are the basics:

  • 2 towels- one to dry yourself and one in case your towel is wet and you jumped back in the water
  • A water bottle. You have to stay hydrated to keep your fuel up. Try to get the reusable ones. Be eco!
  • A hairbrush or comb, to brush out the wet ratty hair.
  • A spare change of clothes in case your other gets wet.
  • Personal items

Jewellery ——- Prefer minimal jewellery as your expensive assets can fall off while you are busy enjoying the pool party. Take it off before throwing yourself into any games.

First Aid kit ——- Your first aid kit should be specific to these pool days, and you can take it around with you from pool party to pool party. The contents of the first aid kit should contain:

  • Petroleum jelly for cracked skin relief
  • Aloe for sunburns
  • Waterproof bandages
  • Insect repellant
  • Anti-itch cream
  • Ear drops and eye drops

Now if you have all of these items ready you have passed the poolside preparedness test! You are completely ready for fun in the sun – be sure to work on that cannonball form, too! What are your favorite items to take to the pool? What are your summer plans? Share in the comments!
